On an episode of In Shambles, Antrel Rolle talked about his experience playing in the league and what it was like to play with some of the NFL’s best players.

TLDR

Antrel Rolle played with some of the best players in the league from Eli Manning to Odell Beckham Jr, so you can imagine he had quite the experience on the field and soaked up all the knowledge. During his time in the league, Rolle played across three different teams: the Cardinals, the Giants, and wrapped up his career on the Bears. Like any player, the biggest goal in mind is to win a championship, and Rolle had the opportunity to do just that while on the Giants.

“My most memorable moment probably had to be the run that the Giants made in the 2011 season,” Rolle said. “We were 7-17 going into the last two games of the season. It was do or die for us and we all know the outcome. We ended up clicking. The team ended up having this undeniable chemistry and camaraderie that led us to Super Bowl 46. We were crowned the champions and I think the Super Bowl itself was great but I think it's more of the brotherhood and what it actually took in order to reach that level is what really stands out to me because it was a hard-nosed grind.”

That Super Bowl was pretty memorable given that it was the first time in NFL history that a team with a negative point differential reached the Super Bowl, let alone win it.

“I wouldn't say that I necessarily thought we were a Super Bowl contending team. But we did have those two games left, I think what we did as a unit, we all dialed in and we all bought into the same system, which was sacrifice for the guy next to you… let's be all in. And that was the outcome.”

Another big memorable reason was the fact that they beat seven-time Super Bowl Champ Tom Brady. It’s never easy to go up against one of the greatest players to ever touch the game.

“Brady has a never quit, never die mentality,” Rolle said. “He is considered the GOAT. I definitely consider him the GOAT. I don't see anyone who can or will surpass him.”

Although it may have been a challenge going up against Brady, it made things a little easier to have Peyton Manning as the Giant’s quarterback during that time. Rolle had the chance to build a strong bond with Manning as a teammate.

“I shared a locker next to [Payton] for 5 years straight and I enjoyed every minute of it,” Rolle said. “He's a guy that you want to be a leader not only of your offense, but of your team. I can't say enough good things about the guy. Outside of his athletic ability and the things that he's been able to do for the New York Giants and his career, I just think he's just a standup guy all the way around.”

In addition to playing alongside Manning, Rolle also had the chance to play with another Giants legend and 2014 Rookie of the Year, OBJ.

“As far as playmaking ability, [OBJ] has the best talent I've ever been around,” Rolle said. “You know, I played guys that were phenomenal, phenomenal wide receivers, you know, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, like, in my eyes, it doesn't get better than that. But Odell Beckham Jr. brought something different. A guy who is not even six feet tall, can jump out of the gym, can make every throw, every catch. He's just a guy that was just an all-around athlete.”

As Antrel was surrounded by so much talent, he shared that one of his biggest takeaways was some advice he got from Payton Manning.

“My best story about Payton is going into Super Bowl 46,” Rolle said. “He called a team meeting. His message was very short, simple, and direct: Let's go out here to take care of business…We're not here for the distractions. We're here to win a football game. When we win this game, we're gonna have a lot of time to party.”

As a player who first went to the Super Bowl early on in his career, Antrel was a young guy who was involved in many outside Super Bowl festivities, admitting he did not want to miss out.

“Just by [Brady] saying that, it resonated with me so much,” Rolle said. “That's my most memorable Eli moment because he wasn't a guy of many words, but he felt the need to take it upon himself and address the team in that manner. I'm forever thankful for that moment. It helped me along the way and throughout the process of the Super Bowl where I have nothing but laser focus.”
