Plus: heated rivalries and brand new trophies

Here we go, Thursday:
A rivalry is brewing between the Pels & Suns š
Brock and the 49ers blow out the Bucs š
What (and who) went down in MNF š¤
The NBA got some new awards š
No. 1 in the West!
After Sunday nightās dub against the Suns, the Pelicans notched their seventh straight win. Over those last seven games, just take a look at Zionās stats. The guy has been a beast.
Of those games, the power forward has averaged 30 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.
These two teams met last year in the Playoffs when the Pels were very much the underdogs against the Suns. This 2-game mini-series showed us just who the big dawgs are this time around.
The Pelicans played the Suns back-to-back games and beat them both times. It got a bit chippy the first game near the end of regulation when the big man hit a 360-windmill dunk with just about 5 seconds left in the game. It was clearly over at that point 126-117.
After that exclamatory moment, both benches cleared onto the court with Chris Paul and Jose Alvarado getting into it at the center of it all. I would be a little heated too if I got elbowed in the face as CP did to GTA.
And Iām not gonna lieā¦ this aināt the first time weāve seen CP make a dirty play.
Following the game, Cam Payne said the dunk wasn't sportsman-like at all, while CJ McCollum said the team should get back on D if they really don't want a dunk to happen in the first place.
So, after things got chippy, fast forward to the second night and what happened? Zion had no sympathy and dominated once again. He specifically outshined CP3.
On Sunday Paul had 6 points and went 3-10. Compare that to Zionās 35 points while shooting 67% from the field? Ouch.
On top of that, the twelve-time NBA All-Star fouled out and had āChris Paul sucksā chanted across Smoothie King Center. Meanwhile, Zion got āMVPā chants.
Make some noise for Mr. Irrelevant
In Sunday nightās matchup of the 49ers and the Bucs, Brock Purdy made the most out of his first NFL start.
The 22-year-old quarterback was selected with the last pick of this yearās draft out of Iowa State, but he sure stepped up on Sunday.
In the 39-7 win, the rookie went 16 of 21 for 185 passing yards, with two passing scores and one rushing touchdown.
Tom Brady, on the other hand, struggled and finished with 253 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Purdy became the only rookie to get a win against Tom Brady in his first career start. Now thatās a flex. Who you callinā Mr. Irrelevant??
But the real question is, can he do it again on short rest and in the home of the 12's? For a full breakdown of tonight's 49ers vs Seahawks matchup with betting lines, check this out.

Down bad in Arizona
It was a tough night for the Cardinals. In Mondayās matchup, New England came out with the dub 27-13.
It was looking bad for the Cardinals once the Patriots outscored them 17-0 in the second half.
Whatās even worse was when Kyler Murray had to be carted off the field with a non-contact injury after the first drive of the game. Updates later came that the quarterback will now be out for the season.
An MRI confirmed Murray tore his ACL. You really hate to see it.
After the Cardinals invested so much in the former No. 1 overall pick, letās hope he has a healthy recovery.
The 25-year-old has completed 258 of 389 passes for 2,359 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions with 415 yards rushing and three more scores this season.
With Arizona already at 4-9 for the season and only one win in their last 13 home games, it doesn't get any easier now with Murray down.
Besides a speedy recovery, I just hope he can finally play COD in peace again.
"New year, new me" vibes

Things just got a little more fun in the NBA.
The league announced theyāll be renaming the NBAās major individual awards after several legends. They even got one whole new award: the Clutch Player of the Year.
Hereās the list:
MVP: The Michael Jordan Trophy
DPOY: Hakeem Olajuwon Trophy
ROY: Wilt Chamberlain Trophy
Sixth Man of Year: John Havlicek Trophy
Most Improved: George Mikan Trophy
Clutch Player of Year: Jerry West Trophy
Some people are saying the new Clutch Player of the Year award is unnecessary. How do we feel about this and who would your pick be?
All I know is, the player Iām passing the ball to every time if the team is down with seconds left on the clockā¦the one and only Dame Time.
