Jasmine touches on her unconventional journey and how she has worked so hard to get to where she is despite the adversity.
This Championship LSU team has been a part of creating history within women’s basketball.
The LSU Tigers represent resilience and the two players respond to how the team reacted to the backlash and drama that followed their victory.
Despite any challenges, Alexis and Jasmine remain focused on their path and are proud of what they’ve achieved thus far in changing the game.
The LSU Tigers were the hottest women of March. Not only did they win the National Championship, but the aftermath sure brought even more madness. Two players on the winning squad, Alexis Morris and Jasmine Carson, can speak to what it was like to even be in the heat of the moment on the biggest stage of college basketball.
Seniors Alexis Morris and Jasmine Carson are feeling like quite the celebrities right about now.
“They always call me LSU Ice Spice, so when I’m walking everybody’s just asking for pictures and autographs,” Carson said. “So it’s just great, I’m just getting a lot of exposure and support and love.”
What can she say, Carson knows she’s a ten on and off the court! That confidence translated during the final game as she led her group with 22 points while going five-for-five from three.

“I do feel like I’m a hometown hero,” Morris said. “Now when I go out in public places especially BR, everybody knows me now… The love is different, the support is different.”
The support is about to be on a whole new level now that Morris is on her way to the WNBA too. The guard was selected No. 22 overall by the Connecticut Sun in this year’s WNBA Draft. She’s had quite the journey— there’s a reason why she likes to go by the nickname “ Lex Luther”. Morris went from being a UCLA commit to a Baylor signee, then playing at Rutgers, Texas A & M, then ending her college career as a national champion at LSU, to soon playing pro.
“It wasn’t always pretty,” Morris said. “I did what I felt was best for my career, my mental health, and my physical health as well. Just to now be a national champion, I can now pat myself on the back. Just to see me overcome those odds and adversity and having to persevere through difficulty it’s just the beauty of the game, the art of the game.”
Even though Morris is transitioning to the WNBA, her time at LSU will not go unnoticed. Morris came up big for the team in the tournament title game, scoring 21 points while adding nine assists and locking down Caitlin Clark. As for Jasmine, we all saw how she completely came to life in the first half where she was draining bucket after bucket. After all, this was a group of ballers that drew 9.9 million viewers to watch them compete against Iowa State.
“It’s really good for women’s basketball and we don't get enough credit,” Morris said. “Just to see change right in front of our age we feel like it’s because of us. We feel like we’ve impacted the game…that’s legendary. I’m just so happy to be a part of history.”
As much of a historic game it was for the university, there was some drama that ensued as many criticized their teammate, Angel Reese after she made the same “You can’t see me” gesture to Caitlin Clark that Caitlin had done in a previous game.
“As women, we get a lot of backlash from talking trash or celebrating after we win or make a big basket,” Carson said. “I think that’s something that people need to talk about and change because, in the NBA, Russell Westbrook does the baby thing, Draymond Green he trash talks.”
There was also another layer of drama following the win after the First Lady proposed to invite both LSU and Iowa State to the White House. Alexis and the rest of the team were pretty public about how they felt about this unprecedented proposal.
“It’s very disrespectful when you work very hard to get to this moment and you have to share the glory with the losers or the runner-up,” Morris said. “That situation is kind of taking the focus off what we’re doing for women’s basketball…Now you got all this race stuff going on in sports and I just wanna make this clear: we don't have room for racism in sports.”
At the end of the day, these LSU ladies had the world talking as all eyes were turned toward their competitive nature and fierceness. There is no doubt, Carson and Morris are two confident players who remain true to their selves and are committed to changing the game of women’s basketball.
